17 Reasons I <Heart> New York
- Because it’s a 24 hour-a-day city. You want Cambodian food at 3am on a Sunday? No problem.
- Because there are four very distinct seasons.
- Because our fine drinking establishments are open until 4am.
- Because New Yorkers are actually quite helpful and polite. Really!
- Because of the great public transportation system. And if you disagree, just go spend any amount of time in Los Angeles.
- Because you can buy anything. Which may not always be a good thing, but we’ll focus on the positive!
- Because while we have our fare share of celebrities, most of the paparazzi-obsessed celebs stay in L.A.
- Because of Yolanda Vega. Or, shall I say Yoooolanda Vega!
- Because anything can be delivered to your home. Again, let’s focus on the positive.
- Because New Yorkers are perhaps the most resilient people in the world.
- Because the New York Post and New York Daily News are actually considered newspapers.
- Because there are parks everywhere! The Parks Department maintains over 28,000 acres.
- Because my heart still skips a beat when I see the Statue of Liberty.
- Because our cab drivers, door men, and bartenders offer free advice.
- Because of the naked man in Times Square.
- Because anything goes!
- Because if you can make it here you can make it anywhere!
Do you love New York? Tell me why!

I have been to many parts of the world and New York is by far one of the best cities I have visited. You are absolutely right about it being open 24 hours a day and that is one of the reasons I just love that city. You can order anything (almost) and get it to your apartment at anytime of the day. No where else can you say that!

If you have to write 17 convincing reasons why New York is great…. THEN you are only trying to convince yourself that it is.
Simply put, if it were that great, everyone would want to get there… oh, and no, if you can make it in NY, you can’t necessarily make it in other places.

Bash L.A. much? Why don’t you try writing something about NY and leave L.A. out of it. Having lived in L.A. for 15 years and only having public transportation as an option, I can assure you it doesn’t shut down because of a rain storm like NY’s did last summer, causing myself and a number of coworkers to miss a day of work.

Well, yeah, you can get anything…IF you can afford it. New York is for the rich. For everyone else, there’s nothing fabulous about it at all.

John– I found that being young and living in New York really built my character, prepared me for “the real world,” and I have “made it” elsewhere due in part to the experiences in NYC.
Charles– I wasn’t bashing LA! I work in LA so I am there at least twice a month. LA has so many great attributes, in fact I am in LA right now and it is sunny and 80! I think it is fantastic that you find the LA public transportation convenient. Unfortunately I have never found it easy and it has always seemed to be very time consuming.
Kevin– New York doesn’t have to be expensive! It was in 2001/2002 that I was broke and living in a Queens duplex with 5 other people. Time softens memories, but I really think those were some of the best days. Fifty cent hot dogs from vendors and Chinese food from Flushing!
Chris– How could I have forgotten! Of course! But your comment should have read “The Mets and Jets!” Kidding!
