Fifth Avenue Holiday Window Dressing Unveiled
A hot glue gun, sequins, and glitter don’t sound like typical tools one would find in designer’s workshop. But those items are exactly what Manoel Renha has in his toolbox. Renha is the creative designer of windows at Lord & Taylor’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, chiefly responsible for the intricate holiday window displays that are presented each year.
Lord & Taylor is celebrating it’s 80th year of this holiday tradition with the theme “Christmas Is The Moment.” Each of the windows facing Fifth Avenue is a global journey using the five senses to remind us of the things that we enjoy each Christmas. The Taste of Christmas depicts a New York family enjoying a roast turkey; The Feel of Christmas features Danish children playing in the snow; The Aroma of Christmas is a Parisian street scene of shoppers enjoying sweet-smelling pastries; The Sight of Christmas shows Santa on a gondola in Venice; The Sound of Christmas showcases a mansion in Vienna where children perform. The final window is The Spirit of Christmas, children from all over the world dressed in their traditional clothing, coming together to celebrate, the embodiment of harmony and peace found throughout the world that symbolizes the season.
