Nothing says Thanksgiving quite like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  The parade first made it’s way down Broadway to Herald Square in 1924.  In the parade’s first year, live animals including camels, goats, elephants and donkeys were borrowed from the Central Park Zoo and marched along the parade route.  In the following years, bears and lions were added but were soon removed because they scared some of the younger spectators.  In 1927 the live animals were replaced with the parade’s now famous trademark balloons.

This is the last weekend to enjoy the annual Downtown for Dinner event in Lower Manhattan.  Over 40 restaurants in Downtown Manhattan are participating in this week-long event offering three-course prix fixe dinners at two-tier pricing of $25 and $35.

I once heard that a person could eat at a different restaurant in Manhattan for every meal, everyday of their life and still not eat at the same restaurant twice.  Though that may be urban folklore, it does remind us of two things:  1) there is a huge array of choices and 2) things are always changing in this magnificent city.
New York City is the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and Broadway.  But the true New York experience should also include the little-known gems that even New Yorkers pass by everyday.
