Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Nothing says Thanksgiving quite like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The parade first made it’s way down Broadway to Herald Square in 1924. In the parade’s first year, live animals including camels, goats, elephants and donkeys were borrowed from the Central Park Zoo and marched along the parade route. In the following years, bears and lions were added but were soon removed because they scared some of the younger spectators. In 1927 the live animals were replaced with the parade’s now famous trademark balloons.
