Your Barney’s Warehouse Sale Survival Guide

Your Barney’s Warehouse Sale Survival Guide

Don’t worry if you see mobs of crazed-looking women on the streets of Chelsea.  It’s not the latest gentrification sweeping the city, its the semi-annual Barney’s Warehouse Sale.
This is your chance to get 50-75% off all of the designer duds that you had been eyeing.  Merchandise includes designer clothing, shoes and accessories for men and women, and gifts for the home.  We’re talking Manolo’s for $70 and a Marc Jacobs dress for $75.  New this year is the addition of children’s Halloween costumes which, oddly enough, I don’t recall ever seeing at the Madison Avenue store.

Castro is Out. Mark the End of an Era With a Mojito at Cafecito.

There is no doubt New York City’s Cuban community will be celebrating this morning’s surprising news that Fidel Castro has resigned as Cuba’s president.

Designed by architect John Duncan, the granite and marble structure was completed in 1897. Located in a prominent place in Riverside Park, overlooking the Hudson River, the monument fell into disarray and in the 1980s it was threatened to be closed to the public. It has since been restored to its original beauty and is …read more

A Closer Look: Portraits of the Homeless in New York City

These are not people from another planet or another world.  These are your neighbors.  We tend to avoid looking at these people when we walk down the street.  We step over them or around them.  We don’t really want to see them.  We don’t want to see their faces.”   Bill Bernstein
There are an estimated three-quarters of a million homeless people in the United States and photographer Bill Bernstein gets personal when he matches faces to this number.  About Face: Portraits from the Bowery Mission is Bernstein’s newest exhibition featuring a striking series of 43″x62″ portraits of some of …read more
