Ten Ways to Enjoy Valentine’s Day with Somebody You Love

  1. Top of the Rock, the observation deck of Rockefeller Center, is a great place to take in a bird’s-eye view of Manhattan.  It’s open until midnight and lacks the long lines that plague the Empire State Building Observation Deck.
  2. He made a name for himself at Le Cirque, but he continues to impress with his edible creations.  Share some chocolates, truffles, or chocolate covered strawberries from Jacques Torres Chocolate.  Locations in Dumbo, West Village, and a new location on Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side.
  3. The Valentine’s Day Poetry Reading at NYU’s Jurow Hall isn’t like any other, it will feature The Best American Erotic Poems: From 1800 to the Present7pm
  4. New York City Ballet is performing Matters of the Heart, a ballet based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, The Steadfast Tin Soldier.  The ballet includes Wheeldon’s The Nightingale and the Rose, Robert Schumann’s Davidsbundlertanze, and the Raymonda Variations, among other works. 8pm
  5. Valentine’s Day evening is Tango Night at Franklin Station Cafe.  Tango dancers Dante Polichetti and Brenda Neville are joined by singer Maria Cangiano and guitarist Julio Santillan for a special performance.  A prix-fixe Valentine’s dinner is also available for $37.95 per person.  7pm or 9pm
  6. Lazy Limabean Film and SCENEPR are showcasing some of NYC’s newest and most exciting filmmakers in Love Actually: Short Films About Love, Sex, and RomanceFilm screening will be at Millennium Theatre and an after-party follows at White Rabbit.  Doors 7:15pm    
  7. Dance class, burlesque, variety-show, karaoke, beatboxing, DJs, jazz orchestra, and more.  It sounds like a three-ring circus but it is instead the Fifth Annual Roaring Twentieth Valentine’s Day PartyCharleston/ Lindy Dance Class 7:30pm, performances 8:30pm 
  8. Stop into any Manhattan W Hotel for a free game of the middle-school favorite, Spin the Bottle.  This version involves saucy dares, such as “Run an ice cube on your partner’s wrist—or any other body part with a W.”  6-8pm
  9. Curious if you and your love are destined to be together?  Find out with celebrity sextrologists Stella Starsky and Quinn Cox at mobile unit Cosmic Love Caravan located at 45th Street and Broadway in Times Square (map). Based on your zodiac signs, they will dish out a free love forecast and personal sexual compatibility reading for you and your significant other.  Be careful, this could make or break your relationship!  11am-1pm 
  10. If you receive good news from the Cosmic Love Caravan, why don’t you get married?  Both bride and groom must appear in person at the office of the City Clerk of New York to obtain a marriage license then wait the necessary 24 hours before returning to the Clerk’s office to have the ceremony.  Ceremonies are performed Monday through Friday, 8:30am until 3:45pm.  Don’t forget to bring a witness!
