Manhattan Cask Ale Festival
Located on Pier 59, The Chelsea Brewing Company’s huge copper-clad tanks loom large behind the polished mahogany bar overlooking the white tablecloth dining area and spectacular sunset views of the Hudson River. Little do visitors know, these seemingly placid digs are really the setting of a microbrew battle that has been waged against the mass produced giants since 1995. The Chelsea Brewing Co., Manhattan’s largest microbrewery, produces around 20 original beers bottling 100,000 cases annually, using their fully automatic grain-handling system, 46,000-pound grain silos, and an automated bottling system capable of handling 2000 bottles per hour. Head brewer Chris Sheehan, has concocted a 1,000 Gyle Imperial Mild especially for the first-annual Manhattan Cask Ale Festival planned for March 28-30. Over 35 local beers will be featured including three from the U.K.. More info. at http://www.gotham-imbiber.com/beerfestival.html
