Baseball the Way it was Meant to be with the Staten Island Yankees

Richmond County Bank Ballpark, Staten Island Do you remember when baseball was pure?  There was no talk of steroids and no $200 million contracts.  It was a time when a family of four could go to the ballpark, order hot dogs and soda, and not spend a fortune.  A time when the kids on the field were there for the love of the game.  Would you believe that still exists?

Nearly every night from mid-June until the end of August, a group of starry-eyed 22 year olds lace up their cleats and take the field as a member of the Staten Island Yankees.  The Staten Island Yankees, or “Baby Bombers” as Staten Island Yakees batter at the Plate they are affectionately called, is a minor league baseball team affiliated with the New York Yankees.  Hoping to make it to the big leagues one day, these guys play with all of their heart while still having a great time.

A night at the ballpark is great for the family.  Between innings the fans are entertained by Huck, Scooter, and Red, the Staten Island Yankees team mascots. The Richmond County Bank Ballpark seats just over 7000 people and is just a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry depot in St. George.  TheScooter, the Staten Island Yankee Mascot night games offer a spectacular view of lower Manhattan, and all Sunday home games are at 2pm.  See you at the ballpark!

Minor league baseball is the best! I would much rather attend a minor league game that a major league one any day. You are much closer to the action and these young men really do give it there all.

I agree. I love the experience of Minor League Baseball or even Independent baseball. For me it is the Pawtucket Red Sox (sorry) or the Worcester Tornadoes of the CanAm League.

The ballparks are easier to get to. Parking is cheap or free. Ticket prices are reasonable. The concessions are even cheap. I can take my whole family to a PawSox game, snacks and all, for the price of 1 ticket to a Boston Red Sox game…

Another reason to go to a Minor League game: sometimes Major League ballplayers are completing a rehab assignment (after being injured) and the parent organization wants them to play a few innings with a farm team.

I have seen some big name ballplayers play with Short-A teams, etc. It was really exciting to see future “Hall of Famers” with only 3,000 other fans.
