I’ve decided to take a break from the world of pro-blogging and today is my final day at The New York City Traveler.  My sincerest thanks go out to all of my readers and fellow bloggers here at the Travel & Culture Channel.  Without a doubt, I can say that in my time here I have learned so much about the city that I thought I knew so well.

Following the lead of such cities as Bogota, Paris, and London, Mayor Bloomberg is closing down a major city north-south thoroughfare and only allowing pedestrians and cyclists. 
Park Avenue will be closed to motor vehicles from 7am until 1pm on three consecutive Saturdays, August 9th, 16th, and 23rd.  The street will be closed south of 72nd Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Get out, meet your neighbors, and enjoy New York’s largest block party.

This place started back in 1975 amidst Boston’s hard rockin scene.  A place for musicians and folks on the edge to visit after the bars closed, some of the flavors are now named after rock stars like the Twisted Dee-Light after Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and Deep Purple Cow, black raspberry ice cream with white and dark chocolate chips and blueberries after…..well I’ll let you guess who.  And the funny name?  Well it came from the founder who was working as a pro-bono attorney on behalf of two homeless men. On the southernmost point of Staten Island and all of New York State for that matter, Killmeyer’s Old Bavaria Inn is a quick trip to the old country without buying plane tickets at euro prices!  And summer is the perfect time to make the trek not only for their heaping Bavarian platters of knockwurst, weisswurst, and bratwurst sided with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and sweet stewed purple cabbage but most importantly, their outdoor beer garden, once-a-month Sunday pig roasts, and 9 thoroughly German beers on tap!

Underneath the Verrazanno Narrows Bridge, linking Brooklyn with Staten Island, sits Fort Wadsworth. My courtship with Nobu was quick.  It was as soon as I tasted the wasabi that I realized that I would be a fan.  The green paste was unlike any other I had tasted before.  It was fresher, with a cleaner taste.  If a condiment can be that good, I knew I was in for a treat… and I was.

NBC’s Today Show free summer concert series continues into August with even more musical performances from today’s hottest recording artists.  
The 13th annual NBC “Toyota Concert Series on Today” also continues.  All concerts are at the Rockefeller Plaza (map), or in the Today Show studio.  The concerts are fee and viewing is on a first-come basis, so be at the plaza or studio no later than 7am.
