Central Park Pumpkin Festival

The Central Park Pumpkin Festival is sure to be the best way to spend Halloween if you find yourself here in the city on Saturday, October 25, 2008 from 3-8 p.m.. Designed to enchant all ages, events range from the Scarecrow Design Competition at Bethesda Fountain, The Spooktacular Haunted House with six rooms crammed with bone-chilling zombies, bloody monsters, and creepy gouls jumping out from the shadows. A 20-foot tall Jack O’ Lantern Tower filled with hundreds of jack-o-lanterns at the Bandshell area that will be lit at 5:30pm, just as the sun is setting.  The entertainment roster is packed with events including the Big Apple Circus’ Anna Jack and her Amazing Poodles, a fire eater, and hayrides for kids starting at the bottom of Cherry Hill continuing along the 72nd Street Transverse giving expansive vistas of the scarecrows to the North and the Jack o’ Lantern Tower to the South.  More extraneous activities will include face painting, gourd bowling, pumpkin seed spitting, and navigating the great pumpkin maze. Chances are, Starbucks will be handing out free pumpkin lattes and not only pumpkin pie but also pumpkin ice cream will be served.
