Election Night Party
Just in case you need a place of refuge on the evening of Nov. 4th after casting your vote, head over to the Exit Art Gallery’s Election Night Party! This event will feature an open bar sponsored by Peak Organic Brewing Co. and Saké2Me along with desserts from Sweet Tooth of the Tiger, along with live music all for $10. Scheduled from 7pm-midnight, activities will also include screen-printing, political mask-making stations, election coverage broadcasting on two screens and a video-art installation by R. Luke DuBois. In case you want to expand your political awareness beyond the two party system, check out their Signs of Change: Social Movement Cultures 1960s to Now exhibit showcasing hundreds of posters, photographs, moving images, audio clips, and ephemera depicting over forty years of international activism, political protest, and campaigns for social justice. Counter cultural movements represented include Civil Rights and Black Power in the United States; democracy in China; anti-apartheid in Africa; squatting in Europe; environmental activism and women’s rights internationally; and the global AIDS crisis, as well as uprisings and protests stemming from indigenous peoples fighting for control of their land; citizens battling airport construction in Japan; and student and worker revolutions in France. Maybe you’ll walk away realizing that change isn’t really dependent on the time worn election cycle after all!
