An Alternative to the Manhattan Club Scene: Guggenheim’s Art After Dark

Guggenheim First Friday Art After Dark This Friday night, trade in your usual club-hopping routine for Guggenheim’s Art After Dark.  The first Friday evening of each month, the Guggenheim Museum opens its doors at for a evening of DJ music, drinks, and art.

This week, Shepard Fairey will be the guest DJ spinning a mix of old-school, hip hop, rock, and electronica at the Guggenheim.  Fairey is one of the most influential street-artists of his time.  He initially became known for his “André the Giant Has a Posse” (later known as OBEY Giant) campaign.  Most recently, Fairey is the artist behind the “Progress: Obama” campaign.   

This Friday, enjoy drinks with friends, explore the galleries in the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building, and listen to some pumping music at Guggenheim’s First Friday Art After Dark. 

Location: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue (at 89th Street), map, 212-423-3500

Subway:  4, 5, 6 to 86th Street 

Date and Time: Friday, May 2, 2008 from 9pm until 1am.

Cost:  $25; Free for Guggenheim members.
