Heartland Brewery entered the New York restaurant scene in 1995 at a time when brewpubs were shunned in favor of wine bars. The stigma has long been shed and, since opening their original Union Square location, Heartland Brewery has opened four more brewpubs across the Manhattan area.
The award-winning beer, once brewed on the premises, is now imported from their Fort Greene, Brooklyn facility. A few years ago my mom was visiting me in New York. As we were walking through Times Square she screamed “There’s the Naked Cowboy!” and took off towards a half-naked man with a cowboy hat. Horrified, having no idea as to what she was referring, I followed and learned of the photo-op phenomena that captivates the attention of visitors and residents alike: the Naked Cowboy.
