The New York City Traveler

Is New York the next unofficial member of the European Union?  Or is this just a sign of the ever-sinking U.S. dollar?  Reports surfaced recently of several New York City retailers accepting Euros as a form of payment.  The shop owners cited the huge influx of European tourists visiting the United States to take advantage of the favorable exchange rate. 

American retailers along the U.S.-Mexican border have long been accepting Mexican Pesos as a form of payment.  Even more U.S. retailers along the U.S.-Canada border accept Canadian Dollars.  But this is the first time an increasing number of U.S. retailers have accepted a currency that is based an ocean away.

Some say that this is just a savvy marketing campaign to lure foreign travelers.  While others suggest it may mark the beginning of a dual-currency economy and perhaps even the end of our beloved greenback. _________________________________________________________________
