See the Kings in Concert

by Heather on February 21st, 2008

Don’t forget that the foot-stomping, hand-clapping, guitar-strumming good time that is Flamenco Week ends this weekend in New York City. Though unaffiliated with Flamenco Week, the internationally-known Gypsy Kings will be performing at Radio City Music Hall. This is you chance to see the Kings perform their famous Flamenco-Rhumba music that has sold over 18 million albums worldwide and garnered a Latin Grammy.

Location: Radio City Music Hall, 1260 Sixth Avenue (map) 212-247-4777

Subway: B, D, F, V to 47th-50th Streets-Rockefeller Center; N, R, W to 49th Street

Date and Time: Monday, Feb 25 at 8pm.

See a legend in concert. The King of Funk George Clinton (okay, the self-proclaimed King of Funk is Rick James, but close enough) will be performing in Brooklyn. Making an interesting choice in venue, Clinton and Parliment/Funkadelic will be bringing their dreadlocks, funk, soul, and R&B sound to the Polish National Home. I caught George Clinton in concert a few years ago, and though I wasn’t really familiar with his music, I quickly realized how much of today’s music samples Clinton and is shaped by his sound. His performance was thoroughly impressive.

Location: Warsaw at the Polish National Home, 261 Driggs Avenue, Brooklyn (map) 718-387-0505

Subway: G to Nassau Avenue

Date and Time: Tuesday, Feb 26 at 7pm

Cost: $39.50 and $45.00 available online and at various outlets
