Holiday Gift Guide Day 7: Gifts for the Entertainer

by Heather on December 9th, 2007

Dinner parties are a way of life in this city and luckily, New York has a plethora of unique stores that offer items that ever entertainer will love. Many items are also available online so even the West Coast folks can have a piece that is quintessentially New York.

A Manhattan staple since 1897, ABC Carpet and Home is the place to go for anything for the home. Items an entertainer would love to receive for Christmas include the artisan dinnerware, barware, glassware, hand blown glass, wooden bowls, and table linens. ABC Home has some great exotic imported items, especially from India. One Manhattan location in Union Square (map) and there is also a Bronx outlet (map).

West Elm, a subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma, features contemporary furniture designs and other housewares. West Elm offers beautiful serving pieces, hammered silverware, artisanal glasses, and much more at very affordable prices. Two New York locations, one in Chelsea and the other in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and various locations across the United Sates. Items also online. A visit to the MOMA Design Store is like a visit to a museum– without paying an admission fee. Housewares with design that is worthy of a museum, the MOMA Design Store offers modern pieces that any recipient is sure to love. Three stores in Manhattan and items available online.

Takashimaya, the Japanese department store emporium is a Midtown delight. Six floors offer everything but you may want to focus on Floor 3 for Gifts & Decorative Accessories, Floor 5 for Bath, and Floor 6 for Essential Luxuries. Take a break from all of that shopping by heading to the Lower Floor restaurant, The Tea Box, to treat yourself to a bento box. Various locations in Japan as well as Singapore, mainland China, and Paris. Manhattan location in Midtown.

Pearl River plates Pearl River offers exotic Chinese goods at every turn. This New York establishment sells everything from clothing to chopsitcks, paper stationary to paper lanterns. This is where I buy my glossed jewel-tone ceramic plates. One Manhattan location in Chinatown and items also available online.
